TED ist eine gemeinnützige Nichtprofit Organisation, die sich der Verbreitung von Ideen widmet, normalerweise in Form von kurzen, kraftvollen Vorträgen (18 Minuten oder weniger). TED begann im Jahr 1984 als eine Konferenz, bei der Technologie, Unterhaltung und Design zusammen gekommen sind und umfasst heute nahezu alle Themen — von der Wissenschaft über die Wirtschaft bis hin zu globalen Problemen — in mehr als 100 Sprachen. Inzwischen helfen unabhängig durchgeführte TEDx Veranstaltungen, Ideen in Gemeinden auf der ganzen Welt auszutauschen.
